The name Larry Bowa is synonymous with Major League Baseball. In his 20 year professional baseball career, Larry spent 16 years in the majors with the Philadelphia Phillies, Chicago Cubs, and New York Mets organizations. In the 2007 off-season, Bowa followed coach Joe Torre to Los Angeles to become the new third base coach for the Dodgers.
Career Highlights:
- He was named a National League All Star five times.
- Having played 2,222 games at shortstop, he holds the record for 2nd most games played in the National League and 4th in the Majors, in his position.
- Larry also holds the National League record for highest lifetime fielding percentage for a short stop, led the National League in fielding 6 times (1971, 72, 76 78,79,83), committed only 9 errors in 1972 (a National league record low), and was a World Series Champion in 1980.
- In 2001, after managing the Phillies to their first winning season since 1993, Larry was named National League Manager of the Year by the Baseball Writers Association of America, The Sporting News, USAToday, Baseball Weekly and ESPN, the Magazine for his stellar coaching performance.
