Garry "G" Cobb is a classic case of a former NFL star who transitions successfully to a sports radio and television career. Garry was a Philadelphia Eagle linebacker who played for popular Eagles head coach Buddy Ryan. Cobb lined up along side Hall of Famer Reggie White and Birds superstar quarterback Randall Cunningham. He played a total of 11 years in the National Football League, 6 years with the Detroit Lions, 3 years with the Eagles, then 2 years with the Dallas Cowboys. As an outside linebacker in Buddy Ryan's vaunted "46" Defense, Garry had his best day as a pro when he registered 4 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a fumble recovery in a single game against the Atlanta Falcons and was named the Sports Illustrated NFL Defensive Player of the Week. He held the Eagles single game sack record until Clyde Simmons surpassed him with a 4 1/2 sack game. Garry was traded by the Lions to the Eagles in 1985 for the Birds All-Time leading rusher Wilbert Montgomery. After his football career Garry became a popular sports radio talk show host on Sportsradio 610-WIP in 1991. He became known as G.Cobb and has developed quite a following among sports fans and especially Eagles fans in the area. He’s a regular on Angelo Cataldi’s morning show analyzing the Eagles during the football season. Garry also was a sports anchor and reporter on CBS-3 television in Philadelphia for 8 years. A year ago he created GCobb.com, which is a website that covers the local sports scene especially the Philadelphia Eagles. The site has quickly become one of the more popular local sports websites. Garry is a newspaper columnist with the Philadelphia Bulletin. He writes a column on Tuesdays and Fridays. He has signed on with Comcast’s CN8 network and does the Out Of Bounds show on Monday night during the football season. He is also a regular on Comcast Sportsnet throughout the year.
Prior to playing in the NFL, Garry was a All-American football, basketball and baseball player in Stamford, Connecticut. He received numerous offers from universities throughout the country before deciding to the go to the University of Southern California. While there, Garry was an All Pac 10 linebacker and played on two Rose Bowl Championship teams and one National Championship squads.
