Derek Daly was born in Dublin Ireland in 1953. Derek went from working in the Iron Ore mines of Australia in 1973 to winning the Irish Formula Ford Championship 1975. Even after that success he lived on a school bus for a year before he won the British Formula Three Championship in 1977. That victory propelled Derek to the peak of open wheeled racing the Formula One world Championship. Derek Daly now owns and operates the Derek Daly Performance Driving Academy, which is one of the most advanced racing schools in the USA. Derek also works as a TV and radio personality covering motor sports for NBC Sports, CBS Sport, Fox, ESPN and Speed Channel.
